Use Case Hydrogen: Decarbonization for a Sustainable Future

For the production site of an company, a comprehensive decarbonization strategy was developed.
By analyzing high-resolution energy data and conducting expert interviews, the current energy requirements were precisely determined and categorized.
Based on this data, various scenarios for CO₂-neutral production and their efficiency and economic viability were simulated. The operating concepts developed, which combine security of supply and cost optimization, were analyzed with various focal points to create a blueprint for other production sites. The concepts involve a combination of various solutions. These include hydrogen production by means of electrolysis, electric steam generation, hydrogen-based peak load coverage with a heating concept using waste heat from electrolysis, and downstream heat pumps. The maximum efficiency achieved through the holistic approach was demonstrated in simulations. With this structured approach, we won the customer for a follow-up project.
