Enabling Research and Industrialization: NEUMAN & ESSER Delivers Green Hydrogen Plant for UNIFEI’s CH2V Center

Enabling Research and Industrialization

NEUMAN & ESSER Delivers Green Hydrogen Plant for UNIFEI’s CH2V Center.

To establish itself as a global leader in green hydrogen, Brazil must enhance its research, development, and demonstration (R&D) infrastructure while training specialized professionals. In this case, the challenge was to build a pilot green hydrogen plant, at a relevant scale, that could serve as a living laboratory to test hydrogen production, storage, and end-use applications.
The Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI), in collaboration with GIZ's H2Brasil project (part of Brazil-Germany Cooperation), has been chosen to establish the Green Hydrogen Production and Research Center (CH2V). To accomplish this, they have partnered with NEUMAN & ESSER to supply and integrate essential green hydrogen solutions.

Our Solution

We were awarded to provide the core technology for CH2V, ensuring that the center would have equipment meeting both industrial and research standards. The integrated solution delivered by NEUMAN & ESSER consists of a complete green hydrogen ecosystem including a hydrogen refueling station (HRS).

Strategic Partnership and Technological USP’s

This project is a successful example of Germany-Brazil cooperation, including NEUMAN & ESSER’s supply of equipment and local expertise:

  1. German Assurance and Integration: GIZ financing required the highest standards of quality and bankability, which were met by NEUMAN & ESSER as a global supplier that ensured full integration of the solution.
  2. Technology for Mobility: The capability for compression and refueling at 700 bar(g) is essential for fleet and vehicle decarbonization, positioning CH2V as a testing hub.
  3. Research Enabler: The unit operates as an R&D laboratory, allowing UNIFEI and partner companies to test real operational conditions, which are critical for the future of engineering in Brazil.

Results and Impact

CH2V, equipped with NEUMAN & ESSER systems, has established UNIFEI as a globally relevant hub for sustainable energy development.
